We left Bordeaux a few years ago to retire to a wonderful small-holding adjacent to Lewa Conservancy on the northern foothills of Mt. Kenya. The land provides an opportunity to become the first biodynamic vineyard of East Africa, with our first cultivars now in their third year. Our intention is to produce natural wines 'close to the fruit', devoid of unnecessary interventions utilising an ancient winemaking practice of processing and ageing in ceramic amphorae.
Instead of importing these large vessels, we undertook a 2 year investigation into whether we could source appropriate clays and fire them locally at the required technical standard. We recently completed our onsite clay-works "Studio Kwanza" to enable both the production of high grade wine amphorae & a range of unique / decorative terracotta pieces.
